— AMD copatrocina en Festival Cybergames de Malasia para llevar la potencia del desarrollo de juegos digitales a cientos de estudiantes en el primer despliegue internacional —
Madrid, 23 de febrero de 2010.— AMD (NYSE: AMD) ha anunciado hoy la expansión de su iniciativa educativa AMD Changing the Game más allá de EE.UU., al copatrocinar un taller de desarrollo y diseño de juegos digitales en el Festival Cybergames de Malasia.
El objetivo de este festival es mostrar a los niños de Primaria de Malasia la tecnología y las potenciales carreras profesionales de la industria de TI. AMD Changing the Game, la iniciativa insignia de la Fundación AMD, está diseñada para ayudar a reforzar las habilidades científicas, tecnológicas y de ingeniería y matemáticas en los estudiantes a través del desarrollo de juegos sobre temas importantes como el medio ambiente, el consumo de energía, la salud pública y muchos otros.
“AMD espera ayudar a transformar los juegos digitales en poderosas herramientas no sólo para alimentar las habilidades científicas, tecnológicas o relacionadas con la ingeniería y las matemáticas sino para ayudar también a la gente joven a desarrollar una perspectiva global y aportar soluciones a algunas de las cuestiones sociales más importantes para sus vidas”, dijo Allyson Peerman, presidenta de la Fundación AMD.
La participación de AMD en el festival es doble. Por un lado, patrocinará el taller “Atrévete a crear”, un seminario que fomente la innovación y la creatividad enseñando a los estudiantes a diseñar y desarrollar juegos digitales.
Por otro lado, AMD aportará 80 PCs con procesador AMD Athlon™ II X y tarjeta gráfica ATI Radeon™ HD 5670 para que se utilicen durante la competición de juegos del festival. El evento de hoy en Perak (Malasia) es el primero de una serie de competiciones de alto nivel en el festival Cybergames de Malasia, que culminará a finales de julio. La contribución de AMD en efectivo y en especie ronda los 100.000 dólares.
AMD Changing the Game
AMD Changing the Game is designed to take gaming beyond entertainment and inspire youth to learn critical education and life skills by equipping them to create digital games with social content. The program’s purpose is to promote the use of youth game development as a tool to inspire learning and improve science, technology, education and math (STEM) skills. The initiative is rooted in AMD’s commitment to and experience in supporting education and the company’s passion and expertise in the graphics processor and gaming industries.
Since its launch in June 2008, AMD Changing the Game has:
• Funded seven non-profit organizations that enable youth game development
• Co-sponsored the 2008 and 2009 Games for Change Festival
• Funded an online toolkit to help nonprofits create games on social issues
• Sponsored a video contest exploring the intersection of education and gaming
• Funded the development of a youth game development curriculum with PETLab and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Earlier this month, BGCA chapters in Larimer County, Colorado and Marlborough, Massachusetts kicked off new “Game Tech” programs that teach club members how to understand game design and create their own games.
